F1 3D illustrations by Chris Labrooy

Chris Labrooy, made some F1 3D illustrations to capture the events, incidents and vibes from the f1 circus. I might be a bit bias here (since I’m really passionate about F1), but I love them. I wished he continued to make these and that it was possible to receive a summarise of the F1 circus each week.

BookBook for MacBook

I really like this BookBook idea — a hardback leather case designed for MacBook Pro… I like it so much that I might just apply some DIY skills and make my own…

Bruce Gilden

Bruce Gilden is a well known street photographer from Brooklyn. What set Bruce aside is his style. Not just style of photos, but style of shooting. Mr Gilden walks the street equipped with a rangefinder camera, wide angle lens and a hand helt flash. When he stumble upon someone with the right sort of characteristics, he crouch right in front of them — like really close in front of them; so close that most people think he’s actually photographing something behind them — and extend his flash above his head and SNAP.

He’s definitely one of the crazy ones.
Here’s a video interview conducted while he’s on the street shooting. Gives you an idea.

Vivian Maier

The story of Vivian Maier is so incredible that the man who discovered her says: “If you made this up for Hollywood it would be like, ‘Oh, come on, that’s too hard to believe.’”

It’s not the first, nor the last time, that someone get’s famous and renown after their death. It almost seems like we find it easier to give credit when no-one can claim it. No-matter why/how/or/if, the fact that we have so many stories of people being discovered post their life is a sign that we are doing something wrong when it comes to nursing and farming talents.

More on Vivian can be found on the this blog: vivianmaier.blogspot.com. Intro quote is from this Guardian article. Since April, she now also have her own website on www.vivianmaier.com. And here’s a short video.

Abandoned

During the 1960s and 70s, thousands of monuments commemorating the Second World War – called ‘Spomeniks’ – were built throughout the former Yugoslavia; striking monumental sculptures, with an angular geometry echoing the shapes of flowers, crystals, and macro-views of viruses or DNA. In the 1980s the Spomeniks still attracted millions of visitors from the Eastern bloc; today they are largely neglected and unknown, their symbolism lost and unwanted. Antwerp-based photographer Jan Kempenaers travelled the Balkans photographing these eerie objects, presented in Jan Kempemaers: Spomenik
“>this book as a powerful typological series. The beauty and mystery of the isolated, crumbling Spomeniks informs Kempenaer’s enquiry into memory, found beauty, and whether former monuments can function as pure sculpture. Source
