Social Media Detox

Dear all,

I’ve done some thinking over the last couple of weeks and have come to the conclusion that it’s about time I shift the focus from Me to My Life.

This change in combination with being a creative polymath with the belief that it’s as much about leaving things out — as musicians work with pauses, designers with white space and poets with silence — and the insight that the best things in life don’t tend to make it to the internet; will now result in a massive decrease in social media activities — a so called social media detox. I don’t know for how long. But definitely for a noticeable amount of time.

In my case, social media is primarily Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Instagram. So these are the services I will from tomorrow cease from using.

I won’t delete the accounts. So I will still receive messages and might use my protected Twitter account to some extent.

I will continue to write this journal.

Today marks a new day.
Wish (or Like) me luck.

Nick Brandt

In 1995 Nick Brandt traveled to Africa to direct the “Earth Song” music video for Michael Jackson. While being there he fell in love with East Africa.

This lead him to, in 2000, initiate a photography project; a book trilogy where he capture the animals and there life in connection with the nature of Africa. The first two has been released — On This Earth (2005) and A Shadow Falls (2009), while the last is currently in the making.

All photos are taken with a medium-format camera (Pentax 67II) and shoot in black and white (with a subtle sepia tone). He doesn’t use telephoto lenses because he likes to get up close — approaching it as portrait photography.

All in all.

Amazing.

His first large sole exhibition is currently taking place at Fotografiska, here in Stockholm. If you pass town, or live here, I suggest you pay a visit.
