I often find that advice is something you can give but rarely something that will divert a set path or direction. It’s like an airbag in a frontal-impact car crash test. It protects the crash test dummy but the car still needs to crash for the test to be deemed as succesfull.

We learn from our own mistakes, not the notions of others. So personally, in most cases I don’t think it’s much else you can do than to help afterwards.
