Sadly, what brought me to write this post is not the brilliance of the website and service last.fm, but how they are slowly transforming into something… less brilliant. They are slowly but surely ‘losing it’. Instead of keeping it simple – focusing on one thing…
I don’t know. The greatness of the service is getting more and more lost in the overwhelming of features. The new design is also a major fall back.
Again, I’m sad I didn’t get a chance to tell everyone how f**king great they were.
Why don’t you write about how you’d like it to be done? What could be different? What could be better? As in “constructive criticism? It’s not like last.fm doesn’t care about criticism. It’s just that “this is bad doesn’t really help anybody.
Nico, I think you are a bit unfair. Keep in mind that it’s farily a new site/service under developing. I’m sure they are listening to construtive criticism and they are defining their service/site/brand all the time.
If you compare it with for example, Flickr which has gotten WAY better since day 1. Give it some time.
I’m only using it because i’m a music nerd, every now and then I can get some recommendations of similar artists. I like the list basicly. I don’t care about radio stations and all that. I do wish it could be a bit faster though and more reliable with the stats. They are NEVER accurate. It seems like they record some of the stuff you play in the beginning of the week and the end and lose some stuff in the middle. I remember I had an interpol-period one week and I listened to it for almost 3 days straight in the middle of the week and when i got my stats for that week it said interpol 15 play counts. if it’s not accuate it pretty much lose it’s meaning.
You are both right – my feedback wasn’t constructive enough and I might have been a bit unfair.
But like you say Joakim:
I haven’t seen that happening to Last.fm. Almost the opposite. And thats the fact that scares me a bit. Almost like they were just lucky the first time around.
In the post I do touch on the thinks I don’t like and the thinks I think is done wrong.
I wrote it more in a ‘why!’ voice then a ‘wtf’ voice.
This is my personal journal, and I didn’t/don’t see the need to always give in-depth constructive feedback – like a free online web consulter.
Sorry.
I do appreciate your feedback on my feedback Julian. Will have it in mind. And I might just go the distance with it.
