Today I bought my first TV

tv.jpg
Except for every other weekend during the Formula 1 season — I don’t watch TV. And as far as I can remember that’s how it’s always been. I just don’t find TV shows interesting/good enough and I don’t like the hook-in methods used to force people back ‘next week’ just so they can expose you to more advertising.

Guess that Formula One is the only type of entertainment that stimulate my brain enough to overcome all the negative part and cynicism I have towards ‘The Stupid Black Box the Furniture in the Living Room Should Point Towards and Our Lives Should Adjust To.’

So, until today, I have never even considered purchasing a TV.

So what changed my mind?

Well it sure as hell wasn’t the on going talk about HD [high definition] screens or the Sony Bravia adverts. No, it was a combination of a beautiful piece of italian design called Algol by Brionvega on sale at Aria.

I’m the boy with the bubblegun

tomcafe.jpg

My friend Adam Frankel and I went to see the Hotel Cafe Tour 2006 at the Carling Acadamy in Islington, London. It turned out being quite a emotional rollercoaster panning from bad, ok and excellent. Overall the evening was a disappointment.

The main reason to my disappointment is probably that I was expecting an evening with Tom McRae, and not an evening with a mixer/blender effect of 5 artist doing 2 songs at the time and taking turns on playing with each other.

Tom didn’t disappoint me, he was brilliant. On stage he was very relaxed, personal and funny. The singing and playing was spot on. I’m quite sure that if the evening had only been with Tom, I would have been more than satisfied.

But it wasn’t.

After Tom’s beautiful, charming, personal and promising start, the whole evening got an increasingly aftertaste of plastic image and bad lyrics. From time to time I was proven wrong, but those moments were among the exceptions.

At one point I turned to Adam saying:

Adam, we are standing in a venue named after a beer that has more similarities with pee and water then proper beer, listening to an American songwriter singing “I’m going to the country” in front of a big backdrop saying;
MYSPACE.COM + (RED)
The Cafe Tour 2006

Adam quickly replied:

Yeah… I know, they surely could have left out the ’2006′ bit.

The highlights of the Evening were:

  1. Tom McRae’s presentation of the artist.
  2. Steve Reynolds guitar playing.
  3. Jim Bianco performance of his sing Painkiller.
  4. Last but not least; Tom McRae preformance of the evenings, and his, final song – I’m the boy with the bubblegun.

Blockbusterius

Of my last three cinema visits, 2/3 were “blockbusterius”. With titles as ‘Superman Returns’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ you can’t expect anything else then a similar rubberish feeling you get after have listen to a 120bpm hit song produced by Max Martin (or similar). But still… even though my expectations were low – I’m very very disappointed of them both. They were not good.

So, the length of the review will mirror my gratitude.

Superman Returns
They could at least have shown ‘The super hero of all time’ some respect. Made me wish he never left (or came back).

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
The title of this movie should include: episode 2 of 3.

On Thursday, during a cab ride back to the office from a meeting, I notice that Tom Hostler (one of my co-workers) had a lovely computer bag from Jack Spade.

So today I went to Aria, on 295-297 Upper Street in Islington, to maybe do a purchase (the ginger ninja was also looking for a bag so). I couldn’t really decide which color I wanted (neither could the ninja), and since I haven’t even decided if my next laptop gonna be a 15″ or 17″ MacBook Pro – so I decided to put it on hold and instead I bought a lovely Italian leather notebook from Barbara Wiggins.

Mr Tall did find the Jack Spade bag unresistable, and bought a brown one.

Number 1

Before the clock switches over to tomorrow – I thought I should write a line or two, after all; the first day of this journal has almost past.
So now Im lying here in bed, racing agains time, trying to find something clever and meaningful to say before tomorrow is here.

Thinking

Ok today.

Today willow and I walked down to Broadway Market to get som breakfeast (think the places is called La Vie En Rose, it’s located at the bottom om Broadway Market – next to the canal). The place had very confused staff…

5 minutes left

After breakfeast (about lunch time really), we walked along the regent canal towards Angel and Islington. It’s really “weird” how the atmosphere and houses changes between the boroughs of Hackney and Islington. Don’t know which one i prefer though.

3 minutes.

Most of the afternoon I have spend in geek land. In the land of Rewrite Rules and .htaccess files. jpg|gif|png|css|js… how do you NOT rewrite certain files? It’s so annoying, really.

1 minute left.
