Call Your Girlfriend

Robyns music video for ‘Call Your Girlfriend‘ is awesome. It’s one long unbroken tracking shot of where she dances and sings.

This video below is the same song, but completely different take on it. But, never the less, it’s also awesome.

Charlie Chaplin final speech in The Great Dictator

Rather surprised (and a bit embarassed)… I wasn’t aware that Charlie Chaplin made any talking pictures.

The Great Dictator was released in 1940. It was Charlie Chaplin’s first talking picture as well as his most commercially successful film.

Michael Wolff

Here’s yet another lovely video in Intel’s Visual Life serie. I previously posted the video featuring Scott Schumann, aka The Sartorialist. This one is with Michael Wolff. I can relate to many things he says. I’m sure you will find it inspiring.

Too good for school

So. Here we have this one guy who happen to be a very talented guitar player. He has the magic tone and makes everything looks so simple. Pure talent. Beyond practice.

Somewhere along the way he decides to record himself playing a few cover songs and publish them on YouTube under the pseudonym Kent Carlevi. He quickly gain traction and get a steady fan base. Most videos have between 400000 to 800000 views and an average rating of 5 stars.

So far. All good.

Then the publishing company for ZZ Top, Stage Three Music, sees the ZZ Top covers and, somehow, draw the line to copyright infringement… files 3 separate complains to YouTube, awoke the “third strike and you’re out” policy and as a result suspense the account.

This is truth not fiction. A publishing company shutting down fans playing covers on YouTube. I’m no lawyer. But surly it sounds odd.

Thankfully many of the Kent Carlevi fans had downloaded the recording and have republished them to YouTube. But, that’s somehow beside the point. Really.

The latest regarding this story is that they are trying to resolve the matter. Again, somehow beside the point. Really.

I truly hope this story reaches some journalist for newspaper, music or guitar magazine and that they feel it’s worth shining some lighting on the story when a fan simply were too good for school.

Below I have embedded a video. For more amazing guitar action visit the search on YouTube for Kent Carlevi or Kent Carlevi official website.

Everything I Say by Vic Chesnutt

Below is a YouTube video of Vic Chesnutt preforming the song Everything I Say from the album North Star Deserter. It’s nothing short of remarkable. It kept me clued to the screen. Made me laugh. Made me sad. Gave me goosebumps. A genius at work.
